Studies in Geobiology over several billion years
At Chico State University, our students conduct research on a variety of projects, ranging from the traces of the microbial world (stromatolites) in rocks spanning several billion years to the paleoecology of extreme environments to facies of the terrestrial landscape. Research typically begins in the field and nearly all projects are field-based. At CSU Chico, we use a state-of-the-art Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS), as well as cathodoluminescence, reflected, and standard petrography.
